should self-defense be illegal?

In my point of view, self-defense should stay legal but I just think it's wrong for someone to take someone else's life away, I personally think that's pushing it. I don't think it's fair to take someone's life away even if the victim is going to die, sometimes the "killer" can be bluffing. There are a lot of people who were not guilty in court for killing someone under self-defense but how do we know that they are telling the truth? Anyone can make a good story up and make it seem realistic.

For example a city in the united states where self defense is legal and the right to carry guns for their self defense,on one occasion a white man was walking and a black man was also walking behind the white man. The white man suspected the black man just because of his skin color and was shot to death. That white man still ended up winning in court and was not accused of being guilty.

Police officers are out there everyday risking their lives to save some people, so instead of killing someone for self-defense we could wait and let the police officer do his job. I just think that if you kill someone, it does not matter for what reason you killed them, you will still be considered as a murderer. People just find it hard to believe but it's the truth, there is no excuses after you take someone's life away.
